Weasel

A Weasel seen hunting among the rocks of the scree slopes of the Findhorn Valley in the Cairngorms. Although I've managed crude record shots in the past, the Weasel has been a species that I've struggled with until now. Mustelids are a tricky family of species to photograph in general. Of the species that can be seen in the UK, I'd still like to improve on my Stoat photos, and I still wish for photos of Polecat and American Mink.

Dartford Warbler

This Dartford Warbler was on Portland, very near the Bill. I've seen many Dartford Warblers in Dorset, but never quite as far south as this one. Their range is growing following a reduction in numbers to just a few pairs in the 1960's.

Otter

A pair of Otter cubs on the River Stour. I watched the mother Otter fishing for some time, eating most of what she caught, but taking the bigger catches to the cubs to feed on.

Great Grey Shrike

Great Grey Shrike in the Forest of Dean. It won't be much longer before this bird leaves Britain for its breeding grounds, but hopefully it will be back in October.

Hawfinch

This last week has brought excellent views of Hawfinch in various parts of the Forest of Dean. This one was seen on Tuesday, eating what I believe were stones from Yew berries that were laying on the ground beneath the trees.

Bearded Tit

A small Bearded Tit flock at Radipole afforded amazingly close views last Friday as they fed on the reed heads. It was raining lightly, and the wind was blowing the reeds around a lot, especially the ones with the additional weight of the feeding reedlings on top of them.

Common Dolphin

A Common Dolphin breaching, Inner Hebrides. This was one of only a few photos I took, but I did do some filming.

A juvenile Goshawk photographed back in July 2013 in the Forest of Dean. I've not managed to identify the prey being carried, but it appears to be feathered.

Wild Boar

A cold day, and some rain followed by sunshine, made for quite an atmospheric sight last Tuesday as the condensation rose from these Wild Boar. The shadow from the sow partially obscured the plumes that appeared as she exhaled, but you can't have it all.

Wild Boar

A male Wild Boar in the Forest of Dean yesterday, following an inch of snow which was all gone by evening. On the 12th of January, I found the first piglets of 2015.

White-tailed Eagle

A rather close encounter with a White-tailed Eagle on the west coast of Scotland earlier this year. Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas!
